Audiovisual capabilities – DJI Ronin 6K 4D
Image quality – DJI Ronin 4D 6K
The DJI Ronin 6K is first and foremost a camera with performance capabilities that allow it to create cinematic-quality content. It features the Zenmuse X9-6K , a camera gimbal with a full-frame sensor and 24.1 MP resolution. The Zenmuse X9-6K of the DJI Ronin 4D 6K is capable of filming up to 6K at 72 fps.
The Zenmuse X9-6K features a DX Mount lens mount and is therefore capable of supporting multiple mount options. These include DL Mount, M Mount, and E Mount adapters. The DL Mount is compatible with DJI’s native ASPH lenses, which are compatible with the Zenmuse X9 camera. The camera also supports M Mount and E Mount adapters, meaning you can attach lenses from many well-known brands such as Leica, Sony, Samyang, and others (a compatibility list is available here).
Among DJI’s high-quality DL lenses, 3 are available:
- DJI DL 24mm f/2.8 LS ASPH Lens
- DJI DL 24mm f/2.8 LS ASPH Lens
- DJI DL 50mm f/2.8 LS ASPH Lens

Several color profiles are available on the DJI Ronin 4D 6K camera, allowing you to take advantage of additional information for post-production image processing. These include DJI’s D-Log, as well as the renowned Rec. 709, a classic in professional audiovisual production, and HLG, also found in DJI cameras. By using these color profiles, it’s possible to capture images with a greater amount of detail, particularly in contrast and shadow areas.
In terms of usable codecs, the Ronin 4D 6K incorporates several proprietary Apple technologies. Indeed, the DJI Ronin 4D is capable of recording video using a lightweight codec perfect for playback and fast file transfer (H.264). But for professional productions, the DJI Ronin 4D also offers video capture using Apple ProRes 422 HQ.
The DJI Zenmuse X9-6K camera is designed to allow filmmakers to produce exceptional footage even in the most challenging conditions. To begin with, this camera offers a variety of resolutions and frame rates. The DJI Zenmuse X9-6K, compatible with the Ronin 4D, can shoot in 2K, 4K, and 6K, all in 16:9 or 2.39 aspect ratios, making it suitable for the cinematic world.
Next, regarding the dynamic range of the Zenmuse 6K Combo, the latter reaches a maximum value of 14.3 stops.

This camera boasts a very wide ISO range to adapt to various shooting conditions. It’s possible to adjust the ISO from 200 to 12800. The DJI Ronin 4D also features dual native ISO technology. For the DJI Ronin 4D 6K, these values are 800 and 5000 ISO.
The Ronin 4D’s Zenmuse X9-6K camera has built-in ND filters. There are nine of these, ranging from ND2 to ND512. This is a common feature in professional filmmaking and greatly speeds up shooting.
Features & Ergonomics – DJI Ronin 4D 6K Combo
Physical Attributes – Ronin 4D 6K
The body of the DJI Ronin 4D 6K camera is constructed from carbon fiber and magnesium-aluminum alloy. This allows the camera to remain lightweight. The Ronin 4D 6K weighs approximately 4.67 kg (with all modules, without lens and storage card). The main body of the Ronin 4D weighs only 1.45 kg, and the stabilizer weighs approximately 1 kg (1.04 kg). In terms of volume, the DJI Ronin 4D 6K measures 309 x 290 x 277 mm. The Ronin 4D is therefore a professional camera in a very compact form factor, especially considering its performance.
The DJI Ronin 4D 6K is divided into several parts, or groups of components, the main ones being: the main body, the stabilization system, the DJI Zenmuse X9-6K camera, and grip and control tools (handles). The main body of the DJI Ronin 4D 6K consists of several basic ports:
- Port for connecting the main screen
- A sound output jack (3.5 mm stereo jack)
- An audio input for a microphone (3.5 mm microphone jack)
- A port allowing the transmission of the video stream to an external monitor
- A port intended for the continuous power supply of the device
By adding the expansion plate to the main body of the DJI Ronin 4D 6K, several additional ports become available:
- A Timecode port
- SDI port (for video return without audio)
- As well as a professional XLR microphone port

The Ronin 4D 6K features a built-in main screen. This removable monitor displays the DJI Zenmuse camera’s live video feed in 1080p on a 5.5-inch screen. The Ronin 4D’s main screen is exceptionally bright, emitting 1000 cd/m².
The Zenmuse X9 also features a 4-axis stabilizer (3 standard axes and a Z-axis). The DJI Ronin 4D camera thus offers superior ease of use. Indeed, with the Ronin 4D, you only manage elements belonging to the same ecosystem. The advantage of this 4-axis stabilization solution also lies in the Z-axis, which behaves like a dolly (audiovisual dolly). The camera remains at the same height constantly, even when tilted vertically.
Battery life and storage – DJI Ronin 4D 6K
The DJI Ronin 4D 6K boasts a 2.5-hour operating time thanks to its intelligent TB50 battery, allowing for extended use. This battery is one of DJI’s most efficient, as its charging time is shorter than the battery life it provides. In fact, the Ronin 4D 6K’s TB50 battery recharges in just 1.5 hours. In other words, having two TB50 batteries ensures continuous filming, as the second battery recharges much faster than the first takes to fully deplete. Furthermore, the Ronin 6K can also be used continuously with an external power supply (note that the Z-axis will be disabled).

In terms of storage, the DJI Ronin 4D 6K incorporates several features for managing files. It combines a removable SSD, a CFexpress 2.0 card slot, and a USB Type-C port for recording to an external SSD. The DJI PROSSD offers 1TB of storage and can accommodate any type of video file captured by the camera. The CFexpress 2.0 Type B card, however, is limited in the video formats it can store. There are also restrictions on recording to an external SSD connected via USB-C (cable not included). Finally, the device boasts a robust design capable of operating in temperatures ranging from -10°C to 40°C. For storage, the DJI Ronin 4D 6K can be stored in temperatures ranging from -20°C to 60°C.
Features & Accessories of the DJI Ronin 4D 6K
Comprising several modules, the DJI Ronin 4D is a device that offers a workspace designed to positively transform the way audiovisual professionals work. It boasts a wide range of connectivity options, enabling the intelligent integration of various components that provide diverse functionalities. With the DJI Ronin 4D, a particularly interesting ecosystem of features opens up to you, offering a unique and highly efficient workflow.
Image tracking functions – DJI Ronin 4D
OcuSync 3.0 Pro is a video transmission system specifically designed for cameras and more resistant to ground-based interference. The DJI Ronin 4D can transmit its video feed up to 6 km using its OcuSync 3.0 Pro image transmission protocol. Multiple wireless monitors can receive this feed and remotely observe the video capture process. This feature is particularly useful for complex scenes requiring a high level of coordination and near-instantaneous information sharing. Distance is a common challenge on set, and this ability to remotely observe and even control the camera solves it.
ActiveTrack Pro is an enhanced version of the ActiveTrack feature currently found only on the DJI Ronin 4D. It focuses more precisely on framed elements and can recognize faces, heads, torsos, shoulders, arms, and legs. It specializes even more in tracking humans and their limbs, but also excels at object tracking.
This tracking feature, implemented by the DJI Ronin 4D camera and its stabilization system, perfectly complements the advanced autofocus functionality offered by this solution. The DJI Ronin 4D camera features an innovative autofocus management system, available in three modes: manual, semi-automatic, and fully automatic. This versatility is made possible by a powerful tool: the LiDAR laser rangefinder for the Ronin 4D. Thanks to this tool, in addition to naturally controlling focus via dials (follow focus and motor focus), autofocus can now be achieved using the emission of invisible laser points.

By utilizing the LiDAR laser rangefinder, the DJI Ronin becomes a device with professional capabilities that rival measuring instruments, except that this unique technology is applied here to audiovisual applications. Using a LiDAR laser to focus your scenes allows you to achieve focus on a target in several modes. Autofocus with the LiDAR laser is particularly impressive because it smoothly adapts to the target-lens distance, resulting in exceptionally fluid and seamless scene tracking.
Wireless Camera Control & Screen
The camera’s orientation is easily controlled regardless of its position. The side handles provide a joystick, and a button on top of the Ronin 4D allows you to tilt the camera forward and backward. The camera is comprised of various modules (handles, transmitters, extension elements) that give the device a wealth of features that work together seamlessly for optimal user experience and efficient production. The handles are detachable and can be attached to the external screen for remote control of the DJI Ronin 4D.
The most interesting accessory for the DJI Ronin 4D 6K is undoubtedly the wireless monitor. It’s similar to the main screen of the DJI Ronin 4D, but larger and, more importantly, boasts some very interesting features. This time, you get a 7-inch screen with 1500 nits of brightness. The DJI Ronin 4D can be controlled remotely using several accessories, including the Master Wheels and DJI Force Pro, by pairing them with the high-brightness wireless monitor (using the wireless extension plate).

The DJI Ronin 4D 6K is a drone made up of several removable modules. It can be remotely controlled using the right and left handles on the main body, which can also be attached to the high-brightness screen. The wireless screen itself also features several ports and connectors:
- A 3.5 mm jack for audio output to headphones
- A microSD card slot allows for recording the video stream.
- The ability to wirelessly transmit video from an external monitor to the screen via an HDMI type A input port.
- USB Type-C port
The wireless monitor can also be equipped with the expansion board to provide additional ports and accessories. With the expansion board, the DJI Ronin 4D wireless monitor will also have:
- A port for powering accessories such as the Master Wheels or DJI Force Pro
- A new port for video output (HDMI type A)
- An SDI (3G-SDI) port
